Renunciation And Restoration Of Jamaican Citizenship
RENUNCIATION OF JAMAICAN CITIZENSHIP
QUALIFICATION
The applicant should be of full age and capacity who is either a national of a foreign country or has been assured of such nationality on the condition that he/she renounces Jamaican Nationality.
PROCEDURE
1. The application should be made (in triplicate) on the Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship.
2. The forms should be read carefully, then completed and signed in the presence of a Notary Public or a Jamaican Consular Officer.
3. Only original documents will be accepted.
4. The application should be submitted accompanied by the following documents:-
i. Birth Certificate
ii. Jamaican Passport
iii. Evidence of other nationality; or proof of other nationality will be required upon the loss of Jamaican citizenship
iv. Two (2) passport-sized photographs certified by a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or someone authorized to administer Oaths.
COST
The US dollar equivalent of J$30,000.00 is required in the form of an International Postal Money Order. For the exchange rate, please contact the Jamaica Information Service at 212-935-7506 or visit their website at www.jis.gov.jm.
Applications are transmitted to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) for processing.
The completed certificates are mailed on receipt by the Consulate at a cost of US$20.00. The fee should be paid in cash or money order and made payable to the Consulate General of Jamaica, New York.
Personal cheques are not accepted.
RESTORATION OF JAMAICAN CITIZENSHIP
QUALIFICATION
The applicant should be a citizen of Jamaica by birth, descent or adoption who has renounced that citizenship.
PROCEDURE
1. The application should be made (in duplicate) on the Restoration of Citizenship Form RS (which is obtainable at the Jamaica Printing Services office at 771/2 Duke Street, Kingston, Jamaica).
2. The Form should be read carefully, then completed and signed in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or someone authorized to administer Oaths.
3. The application must be submitted to the Ministry of National Security and Justice, supported by the following documents:-
(i) Letter of Renunciation.
(ii) Proof of current citizenship.
(iii) Two passport-size photographs certified by a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public or someone authorized to administer Oaths.
COST
The US equivalent of J$15,000.00 in the form of an International Postal Money Order is required on application. For the exchange rate, please contact the Jamaica Information Service at (212) 935-7506 or visit their website at www.jis.gov.jm.
Once the above documents are submitted to this office, the application will eb sent to the Ministry of National Security in Jamaica to be processed.
