New Years Message (2015)

Herman G. LaMont, Consul General, Jamaica, NY

Fellow-Jamaicans and Friends of Jamaica within the jurisdiction of the Consulate in New York, I bring you greetings and good wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable festive season.

The past months of 2014 have presented us with both challenges and opportunities. However, through dialogue and co-operation we, as a people, can truly convert even challenging situations into meaningful opportunities.

As we enter the period of these seasonal festivities, it behoves us to be tolerant and appreciative of each other’s choice of celebration. Some will celebrate this period in a manner conversant with their personal faith and belief systems. Others will adopt the secular path. Notwithstanding this difference in observance, it does not minimise the essential spirit and meaning of the season.

I find this holiday season most appropriate for an evaluation of our activities, achievements and failures. Therefore, hopefully providing the consequential resolution for the recharting of future behaviours necessary to facilitate improvements in all spheres of activities in which we are engaged.

I am pleased for this opportunity to express my best wishes to all for Happy Holidays, followed by a New Year dominated with good health and prosperity.

God bless you!
