Adoption of Children in Jamaica

Orphan Adoption

A person living in the United States of America may adopt an orphan child in Jamaica. In the event that a child has been identified for adoption, the adoptive parents should so inform the Child Development Agency in Jamaica. In the event that a child has not been identified, then the applicant could request the assistance of the Child Development Agency in locating a child. The Child Development Agency will require the following documents:

An original certified Home Study Report, which would be performed by the competent state authorities.
A notarized copy of a marriage certificate, if the applicant is married.
A medical report to show that the applicant is in good health.
Two references attesting to the applicant’s good moral character.
Proof of the applicant’s ability to provide for the child.
Completed application form, obtainable at the Child Development Agency.

Non-orphan Adoption

If the child identified for adoption is not an orphan, then the following documents are required:

Birth Certificate of the child.
A letter of consent from the biological mother.
Name of current guardian, if different from the above.
A medical report to show that the applicant is in good health.
Two references attesting to the applicant’s good moral character.
Proof of the applicant’s ability to provide for the child.
Completed application form, obtainable at the Child Development Agency
